More Facts:

Prairie Dogs are small, burrowing rodents native to the grasslands of North America. Recognizable by their sandy-brown fur, short tails, and alert posture, they are highly social, curious, and full of energy.

These herbivores feed mainly on grasses, seeds, and roots, using their strong teeth to graze and dig extensive underground burrows. Living in large colonies called “towns,” prairie dogs communicate with a variety of barks and whistles to warn each other of predators.

At Hoo Zoo, our Prairie Dogs help visitors explore the fascinating social behaviors of rodents, the importance of grassland ecosystems, and the need to conserve these habitats. Observing these lively, clever animals up close gives visitors a chance to appreciate their teamwork, curiosity, and vital role in maintaining healthy grasslands.
