At Hoo Zoo we are passionate about helping protect the earths resources by being as sustainable as possible.
Sustainable practices are actions that reduce our impact on the planet by cutting down on non-reusable materials, lowering energy use and conserving water. When we cannot avoid using a product, especially one with a higher environmental footprint, we aim to ensure it can be reused or recycled wherever possible.
To minimise water wastage, Hoo Zoo operates using an onsite borehole rather than mains water. Across the site, water systems and animal drinkers are designed to reduce unnecessary loss and ensure efficient, responsible use.
Since 2018 we have significantly improved our café packaging, replacing most items with recycled, compostable or sustainably sourced alternatives. Our goal is to remove all single-use plastics from the café by the end of 2022.
All waste generated onsite is handled by a specialist waste management company. We are proud that none of our waste goes to landfill — the majority is recycled, and all animal waste is collected by a local farmer to be used as natural fertiliser for potato crops.
